guidelines for grant applicants
These guidelines have been prepared to assist charitable organizations in submitting their proposals for funding from the Allport Bequest.
Please read the guidelines carefully and, if you believe that your organization is eligible for a grant, complete the application form. All parts of the application form should be completed unless clearly inappropriate to your organization, in which case the reason for the question not being answered should be stated.
Applications should be signed by the Chairperson of the organization or its Chief Executive Officer.
background of the Bequest
Henry Allport was a prominent Hobart solicitor who for many years was a partner of the legal firm of Dobson Mitchell and Allport. Under his will, he set up two main trust funds, one of which led to the establishment of the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts, now situated at the State Library in Hobart, and the other known as 'Allport Bequest' which must apply its income in providing donations or gifts of money for public charitable objects for the citizens of Hobart. The terms of the Trust require the Trustees to publish in a Hobart newspaper each half year a list of the charities which have been helped and the amount donated to each.
Since Henry Allport's death in 1965, the income of the Trust has been applied to many charitable organisations for the benefit of the people of Hobart.
